AB’s Best Ever Green Bean Casserole
Ingredients
  • note: For the topping:*
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced on a mandolin
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour (rice flour)
  • neutral oil for frying
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt (halve this for regular salt)
  •  
  • note: For beans and sauce:*
  • 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, rinsed, trimmed and halved
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 12 ounces button mushrooms, quartered
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
  • ⅓ c. all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups veggie broth (mushroom stock?)
  • 2 cups half-and-half
  • 1 T. sherry vinegar
