  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • ½ small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup beef broth or red wine
  • 1 can (14.5 ounce can) petite diced tomatoes undrained
  • 1 can (8 ounce can) tomato paste
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped parsley
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped basil
  • parmesan cheese or grated non-dairy cheese optional
  • salt and pepper
