  • 1.25 cups sugar
  • ½ cup buttermilk see above for substitutions
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • subheading: For the apple filling and topping:
  • 1.5 cups peeled and diced apples about 1 extra large OR 2 small-medium apples
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 1.5 tsp cinnamon
