Bacon and Gruyère Green Bean Casserole
Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 pounds green beans, trimmed and broken in half
  • Salt, to taste
  • 6 slices bacon
  • 2 shallots, finely chopped (about ½ cup)
  • ½ pound mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup crème fraîche
  • ⅓ cup heavy cream
  • 6 ounces Gruyère, shredded (1½ cups)
  • 2 teaspoons chopped fresh marjoram or 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (optional)
  • ½ cup bread crumbs (or crumbled Ritz crackers)
