Sourdough Breakfast Casserole
Ingredients
  • 8 cups cubed sourdough bread about 500 grams
  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 2 bell peppers chopped (red, yellow and orange peppers work best)
  • 1 sweet onion chopped or diced (small or medium size onion)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 10 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk 2% also works well
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese shredded
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese shredded, see recipe notes on cheese
  • 1 to 2 Tablespoons olive oil to sauté vegetables if needed
  • 1 Tablespoon unsalted butter, softened for the pan
