  • 1 ½ cups vital wheat gluten
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika or smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard, or 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
  • ½ teaspoon ground coriander
  • ½ teaspoon ground allspice
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ cup nutritional yeast
  • ½ cup kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon vegan Worcestershire sauce, or sub soy sauce or liquid aminos
  • 1 ½ cups vegetable broth, preferably beef-flavored, as in Better than Boullion NO BEEF base
  • 1 teaspoon salt (or more, if using low-sodium broth)
  • 1 tablespoon oil, optional
