Early 70s Tollhouse Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup softened butter
  • ¼ cup shortening
  • 6 Tbsp white sugar
  • 6 Tbsp brown sugar (packed)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp water
  • 1 egg
  • 6 ounces chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped nuts (optional)
Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter, shortening, white sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and water until creamy.
  4. Beat in the egg until well combined.
  5. Gradually add half of the flour mixture into the creamed mixture and beat until incorporated. Then, add the remaining flour mixture and stir by hand until evenly mixed.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  7. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls of dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet, leaving some space between each cookie.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
