This Easy, Make-Ahead French Toast Casserole Is the Best Way to Feed Your Family or a Crowd
Ingredients
  • 1 brioche or challah bread loaf (about 1 pound; 453g), cut into ¾-inch-thick slices
  • 2 tablespoons melted salted butter (about 1 ounce; 28g), plus more for baking dish
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon Diamond Crystal kosher salt; for table salt, use half as much by volume
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • ½ cup, plus 1 ½ teaspoons granulated sugar (about 3 ¾ ounces; 105 g), divided (see notes)
  • 1 ¾ teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
  • 2 cups ( 480 ml) whole milk
  • Maple syrup, chopped nuts, powdered sugar, and fresh berries, for serving (optional)
