Ingredients
- 100g walnuts
- 1.25kg apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 50 to 100g sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 225g plain flour
- pinch of sea salt
- 200g cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 150g sugar, granulated or light brown sugar
- 75g oatmeal
- 75g ground almonds
Steps
- 1. Toast walnuts on a baking sheet in oven at 180 C for 5 to 7 mins.
- 2. Let cool, then chop.
- 3. Sift flour and salt into a bowl.
- 4. Add butter and rub in until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 5. Stir in sugar, oatmeal and ground almonds.
- 6. Put apples in a bowl, sprinkle with the remaining sugar.
- 7. Add walnuts and cinnamon and mix.
- 8. Spread in a pie dish.
- 9. Scatter crumble over apples in an even layer and bake for 40 to 45 mins until browned on top.
Notes
- Works well with strawberries and rhubarb compote (sugar, lemon juice)
