Classic Coney Island Hot Dog Sauce
Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef (85%)
  • 1 large onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
  • ¼ teaspoon ground mustard
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/6 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
  • ¼ cup tomato paste
  • 2 cups water
  • 12 to 16 standard hot dog buns (steamed**)
  • subheading: For the Topping:
  • 1 cup onions (finely chopped, about 1 to 2 tablespoons for each hot dog)
  • Prepared yellow mustard
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Optional: shredded sharp or mild cheddar cheese
