Texas Fudge Cake

Ingredients
  • subheading: CAKE:
  • 1 C. Water
  • ½ C. Butter
  • ½ C. Shortening
  • 4 T. Cocoa Powder
  • 2 C. Flour
  • 2 C. Sugar
  • 1 t. Baking Soda
  • ½ C. Buttermilk
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 t. Vanilla
  •  
  • subheading: FROSTING:
  • ½ C. Butter
  • 6 T. Milk
  • 3 T. Cocoa Powder
  • 1 lb. Powdered Sugar
  • 1 t. Vanilla
Steps
  1. subheading: CAKE:
  2. Bring butter, shortening, cocoa powder and water to a boil, then turn off heat.
  3. Mix together flour, sugar, and baking soda, then add to butter mixturenand stir to combine.
  4. Add the remaining ingredients and stir to combine.
  5. Pour into greased 9x13 pan.
  6. Bake at 375° F. for 30 to 40 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.
  7. subheading: FROSTING:
  8. Bring butter, cocoa powder, and milk to boil.
  9. Add powdered sugar and stir to desired consistency.
  10. Add vanilla and mix in.
  11. Pour over cake while still hot. Leave to cool.
Notes
  • Best served next day as cake compresses and everything gets "fudgey."
