ORIGINAL MAID RITES
Ingredients
  • 1 ½ lb. hamburger
  • 1 med. onion, minced
  • 1 tbsp. prepared mustard
  • ½ c. water
  • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ tsp. salt or to taste
  • Simmer hamburger and onion. Do not brown. Add other ingredients and simmer. Serve on buns with catsup and mustard, if desired.
  • Sharon's notes: When Dave Hayes has his restaurant in San Diego, he had Maid Rites on his menu. I ashed how he made them and it was basically what is above but with the addition of some bouillon or Better than Bouillon. I keep Penzey's beef stock on hand so used a tablespoon or so of it. He had to change the name as the Maid Rite police caught up with him.
