Chinese Brown Sauce
Chicken and Broccoli  
Ingredients
  • note: Brown Sauce
  • 4 tblsp soy sauce
  • 3 tblsp sugar, white or brown
  • 1 tblsp ginger
  • 1 ⅛ cups broth
  • 1 tblsp cornstarch
  •  
  • note: To Cook
  • 1 tsp oil
  • Garlic toe or two
  • Chicken, small bite sized pieces
  • Broccoli, small florets
  •  
  • Steamed Hot Rice to serve
Steps
  1. Combine soy sauce, sugar, and ginger with 7/8 cup of the broth. In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with the remaining ¼ cup of broth. Stir the cornstarch well to eliminate any lumps.
  2. Stir fry garlic toe in oil for a few minutes. Add soy sauce, sugar, ginger and broth mixture. Bring to a low boil. Add chicken. If raw, cook for five minutes. Add cornstarch slurry. Add broccoli. Stir to mix. Remove from heat.
Notes
  • Carrots, Peas
  • Beef and broccoli. Round steak, ⅛" slices. Sauce can be different. Oyster sauce, sesame oil, sherry, soy sauce, sugar, cornstarch.
