Sweet & Sour Meatballs

Ingredients
  • subheading: Meatballs:
  • 1 ½ lbs. of ground beef
  • ⅔ C. cracker or bread crumbs
  • ⅓ C. minced onions
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ½ t. salt
  • ¼ C. milk
  • 1 T. shortening or oil
  •  
  • subheading: Sauce:
  • 2 T. cornstarch
  • ½ C. brown sugar
  • 1 can of pineapple tidbits, drained, reserve the syrup (optionally, use 1 C. of pineapple juice)
  • ⅓ C. vinegar
  • 1 T. soy sauce
Steps
  1. Mix thoroughly beef, crumbs, onion, egg salt and milk.
  2. Shape by tablespoonfuls into balls.
  3. Heat oil in large skillet; brown and cook meatballs.
  4. Remove meatballs; keep warm. Pour fat from skillet.
  5. Mix cornstarch and sugar. Stir in reserved pineapple juice, vinegar and soy sauce until smooth.
  6. Pour into skillet; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils.
  7. Boil and stir one minute.
  8. Add meatballs and pineapple. Heat through.
