Miss Kay fried pies

Ingredients
  • 5 c flour
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ¾ c butter flavored Crisco
  • 1 can evaporated milk
  • 1 egg
  • 14 oz can pie filling
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for sprinkling
Steps
  1. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, salt. Cut in shortening. Add milk and mix. Add egg and mix. Cover and refrigerate 1 hour.
  2. Remove half the dough and roll to ⅛ inch thickness. Cut into 6 inch circles. Put about 1 ½ tbs filling in center. Fold and crimp edges with a fork.
  3. Fill a heavy pot half way with oil 350 degrees. Place a few pies at a time turning once. Pies will float when done. Drain and sprinkle with sugar.
