America's Test Kitchen's Asian-Style Braised Short Rib
Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 2-inch piece of ginger, peeled, sliced into ¼ inch thick rounds and smashed with the side of a knife
  • ½ cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • Sambal olek chili paste
  • 2 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 1.5 lbs boneless beef short ribs (about 2 to 2.5 lbs)
  • ¾ cup water (or enough to cover ribs)
  • Scallions (to serve)
  • Toasted sesame oil (to serve)
