Austria isn't known for any cocktails per-say - mostly they are a beer and wine country. However, this cocktail is named after the country because the creators of the cocktail are Austrian.

Ingredients
  • subheading: For the Ginger Syrup:
  • 1 (5") Piece of Ginger
  • 1 Cu. Water

  • subheading: For the Drink:
  • 1½ oz. Gin
  • ¾ oz. Lillet Blanc

  • ½ oz. Lemon Juice
Steps

  2. Cut thin slices of ginger and add to water and Demerara in a heavy bottom pot while it’s cooking on the stovetop. Toss in peppercorns. Strain before bottling.
  3. subheading: For the Drink:
  4. In a cocktail shaker, combine the gin, Lillet Blanc, grapefruit juice, ginger syrup, lemon juice and bitters. Fill with ice and shake vigorously. Strain through a double strainer into a coupe glass and garnish with white pepper.
