Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (see notes for oil-free version)
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¾ cup vegetable broth
  • ¼ cup tomato paste
  • ¼ cup white miso paste
  • ¼ cup sun-dried tomatoes (the kind in oil), finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons fennel seeds
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional for spice)
  • ¼ teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 2 cups vital wheat gluten
