Like Kahlua, only better

Servings: 15 to 20

Servings: 15-20
Ingredients
  • 1 cup brewed coffee
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups spirit of choice (see Notes)
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
Steps
  1. Add the coffee and sugar to a small pot and heat over a medium low heat until all the sugar is incorporated. You're basically making a coffee syrup here. Allow to cool to room temperature.
  2. Add coffee syrup to a glass bottle with an airtight stopper. Add the spirit and vanilla. Close the bottle and gently mix the contents. Let it sit 15 minutes for the flavors to blend.
Notes
  • Original Kahlua is made with white rum but this recipe can use any spirit that works well with coffee and sweet flavors. The first time I made this recipe, I used a spiced rum (similar to Captain Morgan's). I've seen other attempts that have used bourbon and vodka. It really comes down to personal preference and taste.
