~by Josie Smythe
Ingredients
- 1 Boxed Cake Mix (15.25 oz)*
- 1 cup Chocolate Chips (optional)
- Frosting of your choice
Steps
- *Prepare the Cake Mix following the directions on the box.
- Add in optional chocolate chips if using.
- Divide batter into 2 bowls.
- Spray a 7" pan with non-stick spray (I used a spring form pan)
- Pour half the batter into the pan.
- Loosely cover pan with foil.
- Place trivet & 1 cup of water into Instant Pot.
- Lower cake into pot using a foil sling.
- Put on lid & seal vent; Cook on Manual (or Pressure Cook)/High Pressure for 30 minutes.
- Do a 15 minute Natural Pressure Release, then release any remaining pressure.
- Check cake with toothpick to make sure it's done. (cook a few more minutes if needed)
- Remove cake from pot & let cool on wire rack for 10 minutes before removing from pan.
- Repeat with remaining cake batter.
- Frost cake as desired.
Notes
- *Prepare the cake mix according to the directions on the box. Most box mixes call for eggs, vegetable oil & water, but the amounts may vary.
- I used Pillsbury Moist Supreme Devils Food Cake Mix (it has pudding in the mix)
- I used this recipe for Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting (added extra cinnamon):
- You can make this as 2 small separate cakes or as a layer cake.
- *I've also made this in a 6 cup bundt pan using all of the cake batter at once. I increased the cook time to 40 mins. The cake rose a little over the top of the pan when cooked so it didn't really have a flat bottom when plated, but it cooked just fine.
