Peanut butter blossoms

1 ¾ cups sifted flour

1 tsp soda

½ tsp salt

½ cup shortening

½ cup crunchy peanut butter

½ cup sugar

½ cup firmly packed brown sugar

1 egg, unbeaten

2 tbsp milk

1 tsp vanilla

1 11 oz bag Hershey kisses

Mix shortening and sugar, add peanut butter. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients and mix well. Shape by rounded teaspoonsful into balls. Roll in sugar; place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375° for 5 minutes. Remove from oven, and place a solid milk chocolate candy kiss on top of each cookie, pressing down so that the cookie cracks around the edges. Return to oven and bake 2 to 5 minutes.
