Whole Wheat Navajo Fry (or No Fry) Bread
Ingredients
  • Best when hot and fresh made, but if leftovers, reheat fried bread in a preheated 400F oven until hot and set on paper towels to drain excess oil. Reheat baked bread in a toaster oven or oven.
  •  
  • 1 C plus 2 TBSP (135g) white whole wheat or sprouted wheat flour (450 cal, 18g protein)
  • ½ C plus 1 TBSP warm water
  • ½ TBSP acidic medium (apple cider vinegar, liquid whey, yogurt, lemon juice)
  • 3/8 heaping tsp sea salt
  • ¾ tsp coconut oil or butter (0 counted cal for coconut oil)
  • ½ heaping tsp yeast (6.5 cal, 0.8g protein)
  • ¾ tsp honey (15 cal)
  • 1 TBSP arrowroot starch, divided (35 cal)
  • ¾ C coconut oil for pan frying
  • ¼ C arrowroot starch for shaping the bread (used about 3 TBSP 105 cal)
  • Adjust nutrition to ingredients used
  • Recipe total about 612 cal, 18.8g protein
