Cold brew coffee using whole coffee beans

Servings: Eight 4-oz cups

Servings: Eight 4-oz cups
Ingredients
  • Mason Jar (32 oz)
  • Spring Water (32 oz)
  • Whole Coffee Beans (One large handful to cover bottom of jar - about ¼ cup)
Steps
  1. Put a handful of whole coffee beans in the bottom of the mason jar.
  2. Fill with spring water (room temperature).
  3. Put lid on.  Let sit on counter for 3 hours.
  4. Place in refrigerator for 2 to 3 days (until all the beans drop back down to the bottom of the jar).
  5. Strain.
  6. Serve.
Notes
  • Add spices to the jar.
  • Add raw honey to the jar.
  • Enjoy with almond milk or coconut milk.
  • Enjoy with Spice Infusion (see separate recipe).
  • Reuse whole beans (grind and re-brew using cold brew method using a French press - more of a coffee concentrate with this method). Grind in some nuts with the coffee.
  • Because the ground coffee beans in cold-brewed coffee never come into contact with heated water, the process of leaching flavor from the beans produces a chemical profile different from conventional brewing methods. Brewing at a lower temperature results in lower acidity and lower caffeine content when brewed in equal volume.
