Cold brew coffee using whole coffee beans
Servings: Eight 4-oz cups
Servings: Eight 4-oz cups
Ingredients
- Mason Jar (32 oz)
- Spring Water (32 oz)
- Whole Coffee Beans (One large handful to cover bottom of jar - about ¼ cup)
Steps
- Put a handful of whole coffee beans in the bottom of the mason jar.
- Fill with spring water (room temperature).
- Put lid on. Let sit on counter for 3 hours.
- Place in refrigerator for 2 to 3 days (until all the beans drop back down to the bottom of the jar).
- Strain.
- Serve.
Notes
- Add spices to the jar.
- Add raw honey to the jar.
- Enjoy with almond milk or coconut milk.
- Enjoy with Spice Infusion (see separate recipe).
- Reuse whole beans (grind and re-brew using cold brew method using a French press - more of a coffee concentrate with this method). Grind in some nuts with the coffee.
- Because the ground coffee beans in cold-brewed coffee never come into contact with heated water, the process of leaching flavor from the beans produces a chemical profile different from conventional brewing methods. Brewing at a lower temperature results in lower acidity and lower caffeine content when brewed in equal volume.
