Favorite Coconut Meringue Pie

I doubled meringue recipe for another pie topping . Added 1 cup milk and 1 cup or (2 seven oz cans )coconut condensed milk. 3 TBS butter... a little more of all ingredients since I used more than 2 c milk. Did not use this meringue

Pastry for single-crust pie (9 inches)

⅔ cup sugar

¼ cup cornstarch

¼ teaspoon salt

2 cups milk

3 egg yolks, lightly beaten

1 cup sweetened shredded coconut, finely chopped

2 tablespoons butter

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

subheading: MERINGUE:

3 egg whites

¼ teaspoon cream of tartar

6 tablespoons sugar

½ cup sweetened shredded coconut
