  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 4 to 4 ½ cups sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ⅔ cup dried currants

  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 4 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar (more if needed)
  • grated rind of 1 lemon
