Grandma Allen's Homemade Bread
This recipe can be used for homemade bread and cinnamon rolls.

Ingredients
  • 2 Tbsp. Active Dry yeast
  • 4 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 ½ Tbsp. salt
  • 5 cups warm water
  • 1 stick butter
  • 6 cups flour (to start)
Steps
  1. Add yeast to ½ cup warm water. Set aside.
  2. Place 5 cups warm water in a bowl.
  3. Add oil, sugar, salt, to the water.
  4. Add 6 cups flour to water mixture.
  5. Using mixer or by hand, mix all ingredients together except yeast. After mixture is blended, add yeast/water mixture.
  6. Once all this is blended, add 1 cup of flour at a time while kneading until dough is a soft but no longer sticky.
  7. Form dough in to ball and place in greased bowl.
  8. Let rise to double size.
  9. Once raised, separate dough in to 6 even portions and place in greased bread pans.
  10. Cover with towel and let raise until dough is about 1" above top of pan.
  11. Place in 350° oven for 30 minutes or until tops are golden brown.
  12. After removing from oven, baste bread with melted butter.
Notes
  • This dough can be used for cinnamon rolls as well.
