Ingredients
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 2 cups Karo syrup
  • food coloring
  • 1 tsp. anise flavoring
Steps
  1. Cook sugar, water, and syrup until thick, boiling about 25 minutes, to "hard crack."
  2. Stir in coloring.
  3. Add anise flavoring last.
  4. Pour into 2 well-greased 12" x 18" pans.
  5. Cut lines in candy with buttered knives.
  6. Keep cutting to make breaking lines.
  7. Remove from pans before completely hard.
  8. It's easier to break on lines when it's not too brittle.
