Big Ma Cake
A recipe from my great grandmother. I'm not sure if it was her original recipe or not.
Ingredients
  • Cake
  • 1 cup crisco
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 cups self rising flour
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup milk
  •  
  • Frosting
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
Steps
  1. Cake...Cream crisco, eggs, and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Sift flour and add along with milk to creamed mixture.
  3. Add vanilla and mix well.
  4. Divide batter among five (5) 9" round pans. (grease and flour pans first) Bake @350 for 15 mins.
  5. Frosting...Mix all ingredients in saucepan, bring to a boil stirring frequently.
  6. Cook 5 minutes after boil. Do not cook longer than 5 mins.....
  7. Remove from heat and immediately frost cake.
  8. Punch holes in cake layers before frosting so it can run down into cake.
  9. Frost one layer at a time. As you add layers continue to punch holes so the frosting can run down through. The frosting will seem runny so you have to continue to scoop from sides and add to top.
