Simplified version of the classic recipe

Servings: 4 to 6

Servings: 4-6
Ingredients
  • 1½ lb ground beef or steak cut into bite sized pieces
  • 6 tablespoons butter (¾ stick)
  • 6 tablespoons flour
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • Egg noodles
Steps
  1. Prepare egg noodles according to package directions.
  2. In a pan over medium heat, sauté ground beef or steak over medium heat until cooked through. Remove meat from pan and set aside. If there is fat in the pan, pour off and discard.
  3. Add butter to pan and melt. Add flour and whisk together. Cook for 1 minute to cook out the flour taste. Add beef broth and use whisk to combine. Bring to a simmer and let cook until thickened. Add sour cream and combine. Once combined, add meat and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until meat is warmed. Serve over egg noodles.
Notes
  • For additional flavor, you can cook some diced onions until translucent before adding the meat to cook. You can also add 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce when adding the beef broth.
