Made with leftover bone-in ham from the holidays.
Ingredients
  • 1  16 ounce package dry pinto beans
  • 1 meaty ham bone (pull off most of the meat)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon bacon grease
  • 1 medium onion, peeled and chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 bay leaves
  • salt and pepper, to taste
