Bierock (Runza) Recipe, How to Make Bierocks
Ingredients

  • 1 cup (237 ml) whole milk (lower fat milk can be substituted)
  • 1 package (7 gr, or 2 ½ tsp) active dry or quick rise yeast
  • ¼ cup (49 gr) granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup (73 gr) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 ¼ tsp (6 gr) kosher salt or table salt
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 4 to 4 ½ cups (476 to 535 gr) all-purpose flour
  • subheading: FOR THE FILLING:
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil of choice
  • 1 medium onion, small diced (about ½ cup)
  • 3 to 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 pound (455 gr) ground beef (85 to 90% lean)
  • 4 cups of shredded green cabbage (about 10 oz)
  • 1 tsp salt (plus more to taste)
  • black pepper
  • 4 oz (112 gr) shredded cheese of choice (I like a sharp cheddar)
